So, I’d heard of people who ‘baked’ their bacon, but I was not one of them. I preferred the dangerous and splattery (I just made that word up) stove-top method. But a few weeks ago I tried the ‘baking’ method and not only did the bacon come out perfect, it ALSO saved me some time because baking the bacon also pre-heated the oven because it starts in a COLD oven! WHAT?
So, are you ready to change the way you cook bacon forever? Are you ready for Baked Bacon? This is what you do:
- Place the raw bacon on a parchment paper lined baking sheet (one with a rim to catch the bacon fat). I use parchment paper, as opposed to aluminum foil, based on research that suggest the aluminum can leach into your food and thus your body. But I’m no scientist! You do you!
- Place the baking sheet into a COLD oven and then set the oven to 400° F.
- Cook for 15-20 mins depending on whether you like your bacon less or more crispy.
That’s it!! The kicker?? Once the bacon is cooked, you can pour all the clean bacon fat into a storage container for later use (think greasing pans or sauteing veggies). Just be careful because it will be HOT!

Ingredients
- Raw, sugar-free bacon.
Instructions
- Place the raw bacon on a parchment paper lined baking sheet (one with a rim to catch the bacon fat).
- Place the baking sheet into a COLD oven and then set the oven to 400° F.
- Cook for 15-20 mins depending on whether you like your bacon less or more crispy.
Notes
Don't waste that fat! Let it cool a bit (not totally), pour it through a metal sieve (to catch any bacon bits) into a widemouthed glass jar as it will solidify at room temperature. Use it later for sauteing or roasting!
